 Joseph L. Webster, Sr., M.D. is a native of Monticello, Florida and the great-grandson of a Slave and Native American heritage. Dr. Webster attended FAMU, graduating magna cum laude and took a doctorate in medicine from the J. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. He completed his postdoctoral training in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA program and did further training at the Washington University School of Medicine at St. Louis, MO. He has subsequently participated in postdoctoral training at major universities and cities throughout the United States of America and in Italy, South Africa, the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada.

 Dr. Webster founded the Comprehensive Center for Digestive and Nutritional Disorders in 1980 and built the Imhotep Health and Video Complex, LLC in 2004. With over 20 years of clinical experience and professional leadership responsibilities- Dr. Webster brings to the Tallahassee Community “cutting edge” technology and expertise in the services offered at the Imhotep Health and Video Complex, LLC.

 The Imhotep Health and Video Complex, LLC is a “one of a kind” visionary leap for healthcare institutions. Dr. Webster recognizes the unique synergies that exist between the provision of the optimal healthcare and the unlimited capabilities of Visual Technology as a learning tool. He has pioneered the marriage of both worlds as he introduces to the Tallahassee community the services of Imhotep Health and Video Complex, LLC. Imhotep houses the Webster Surgical Center, LLC, which is an Ambulatory Surgical Center that provides outpatient surgical procedures in an AAHC Certified, state of the art setting. The Webster Surgical Center, LLC is the only African American own ASC dedicated to Endoscopic Surgical in North Florida. The Webster Surgical Center, LLC is equipped with Olympus-USA endoscopic equipment and has all of the accessories needed to be a first class endoscopic center.

 The Webster Surgical Center, LLC, cost over $2.5 million to construct and currently employs 10 full-time employees and a “host” of part-time employees, consultant, and advisors. The Webster Surgical Center, LLC, is in collaboration with the University of Texas at Houston. Mayo Clinic-Rochester, University of Tokyo and other institutions of higher learning in the United States of America – not the least of which includes our own Florida A&M University – College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Schools of Allied Health and Public Health.

 The Webster Surgical center, LLC, provides service for the Big Bend coverage area consisting over 2.1 million people. In addition to providing all of the standard endoscopic procedures we also provide the Pillcam - endocapsule for detecting obscure bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract without surgical intervention.

NOTEWORTHY ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Developed a Comprehensive Clinic for Digestive and Nutritional Disorders in 1980 and directed its growth through era of managed care transition.
  • Founded the Institute for African American Health, Inc, to address health care disparities in the minority population in Florida and the nation.
  • Founded Concerned Citizens Political Action Committee to bring some voice to the common man as it relates to issues of health and education (currently inactive).
  • Frequently provided testimony before the Florida House and Senate Committees on health issues.
  • Developed the state of Florida’s first statewide summit on issues for health and education in the Black Community as an activity of the Concerned Citizens Political Action Committee.
  • Hosted the state of Florida’s first Minority Health Summit (Summer 1999).
  • Worked with the late Governor Lawton Chiles to help win a $700 million tobacco settlement through the statewide support of the Concerned Citizens Political Action Committee and the Institute for African American Health, Inc. (IAAH).
